The Elizabeth Hoolmann Memorial Holocaust Education Foundation is a registered West Virginia non-profit entity whose primary mission is to provide financial and logistical support to the West Virginia Commission on Holocaust Education.
The West Virginia Commission on Holocaust Education was established in 1998 by executive order of Governor Underwood and enacted by legislation in 2001. The Commission receives no public funds for its work and relies exclusively on private funding.
Elizabeth Hoolmann was a Christian German woman who relocated to Belgium after the death of her husband. In 1942, at her own peril, she personally rescued and hid Jewish families, including WVCOHE founder Edith Levy, from Nazi capture and deportation to death camps. She is enshrined at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem among the Righteous of the Nations.
The need for Holocaust education continues to grow and evolve as the next generation of educators take their place in West Virginia classrooms. Your support helps fund teacher seminars, student engagement, and classroom resources. Please help sustain this vital mission with your generous donation.
